New this month...
Apple Location Manager
Apple Location Manager (ALM) is an API and Control Panel that developers have used to allow their settings or preferences to be switched in concert with other developer's settings (these suites of settings are called “Locations”).
Previous versions were restricted to run only on PowerBooks, but ALM 2.0 will run on any MacOS-equipped machine, as users (and developers) have demanded. In addition to desktop support, ALM 2.0 features a dramatically simplified user interface that should make location configuration much easier.
Apple System Profiler
Apple System Profiler (ASP) lets you gather information about the configuration of your computer. The information that ASP reports may be useful if you place a call to the Apple User Assistance Center or for recording system configurations during testing.
ATA Demo 1.1 and ATAerrorDetector
ATA Demo shows how to use the ATA manager. ATAerror Detector features sample code demonstrating how to test for certain kinds of ATA hard drives which would cause problems for some PowerBooks in SCSI disk mode.
Developer Notes
The Macintosh PowerBook G3 and Power Macintosh G3 Developer Notes are updates to items released on the December Developer CD.
Enterprise & Internet Docs
Getting Started with Web Objects provides an introduction to using the WebObjects Framework to create applications that run on the World Wide Web or on corporate intranets. Through a series of tutorials, it shows you how to use the tools WebObjects Builder and Project Builder to create simple scripted applications, applications that access a database, and applications
written in the Java programming language.
Inside Macintosh
Inside Macintosh is a collection of books, organized by topic, that describe the system software of Macintosh computers. Together, these books provide the essential reference for programmers, designers, and engineers creating applications for the Macintosh family of computers.
The January Developer CD contains 5 additions to the complete suite of Inside Macintosh documentaion released on the December 97 Reference Library edition: Text Encoding Conversion Manager, Programming with MRJ Toolkit, Networking with Open Transport, and Mac OS Toolbox Reference.
